West Ham Give Up on Harry Maguire Transfer Hopes

West Ham United appears to have grown impatient during transfer negotiations over Manchester United’s defender, Harry Maguire.

According to reports, the talks collapsed on Tuesday, 15 August, when the two clubs failed to come to an agreement on a pay-off for the 30-year-old English football player.

The Hammers purportedly verbally agreed to a fee in the region of £30 million to sign Maguire last week, which would have been paid to his current club. However, discussions seem to have stalled on the point of how much the defender himself should receive in the transfer.

An unnamed source spoke with an international publication on the same day the deal was called off, saying that Maguire was eager to stay at Man United and carve out a niche for himself.

“Harry remains settled at United, loves the club and believes he will get plenty of opportunities to play this season,” the source added.

Maguire has had a tumultuous time with the Red Devils this year, having been stripped of his captaincy in July due to poor performance. His replacement, Bruno Fernandes, will need to deal with the challenge of having his predecessor under his reign in the new season.
